On Tuesday, the 15th of March, Rebecca Baker and Joanna Dickens spoke to the UKAA on how to combat fraud in the private rental sector.
Fraud is on the rise, this we know. And, since the start of the pandemic over two years ago, fraudsters have only gotten smarter.
With the rental market still recovering, we need to be more thorough than ever. Referencing potential tenants is the first line of defence for Build To Rent operators in avoiding the pitfalls of a tenancy gone wrong.
Referencing is just as, if not more critical in the BTR sector than a traditional letting agent. BTR operators are keen to keep units filled long-term and build a sense of community and a ‘prestige’ offering. If a tenancy goes wrong and results in the arduous eviction process, it can severely damage their reputation.
