Tenant fee ban announced for 1st of June 2019

Posted by on January 16, 2019

On 15th January 2019, the government confirmed that the long-awaited Tenant Fees Bill will come into force for letting agents on 1st of June 2019.

The announcement was made by Lord Bourne the Governments Housing Spokesman, he said:

“We need to enable agents and landlords following Royal Assent to become compliant, but we intend for the provisions to come into force on June 1, 2019.

“This would mean the ban on lettings fees would apply to all tenancies signed after this date.”

This news has been met with uncertainty in the lettings industry, however we believe that under our Fit for the Future proposition, letting agents, their businesses and their customers will thrive. Our own Andy Halstead (CEO) had this to say:

“We have been planning for this since Autumn 2016 . . . There will be winners and losers, professional agents with the right support will get through this, ultimately with stronger, bigger businesses. 2019 is going to be one of the toughest on record, let’s collaborate and win the war. There is a huge difference between cost and value, between a customer experience and customer service. Value and service every time for me. Bring it on!”
